Song to the Siren

Okay, so it's his dad's song (or maybe Elizabeth Fraser's), but whatever.

I was reading a review of k.d. lang's Hymns of the 49th Parallel that noted that her cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" was really a cover of Jeff Buckley's cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah". Now, I think that k.d.'s album is brilliant, and figured I'd have to look up this Jeff Buckley guy and give him a listen. I got all the way to "Corpus Christi Carol", the third-to-last track on the album Grace, before I was completely in love. Totally and utterly. Maybe even a bit madly. I had to stop to catch my breath, and I turned to the internet, certain that someone would have written something about this completely remarkable song on the internet. And then it happened. I read the phrase, "the late Jeff Buckley", and everything went just a little bit dim for a second.

So it's all a bit late, what with Jeff's untimely death having happened ten years ago, but it's all very new to me and the wound is still fresh. Here's a moment of silence for a life of great promise cut short. I have no right, and yet I remain bereft.
