Come on down to the Toronto Art Expo, in which Pirkko is participating (see a sneak peek at some new drawings here, and see some paintings here). I'll be there for the opening on March 16, and the Expo runs from March 16 - 19 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
This is one of Pirkko's more recent paintings (and it's also currently my wallpaper on my PC at work). I don't understand how, but it's pink, and I hate pink (no really, I hate pink a LOT!), and still I love this painting. I tell you, the woman's a genius.
Posted by Ken Allen at March 1, 2006 6:46 PMHey Ken, Your sweater looks great. I can only knit small things. For some reason I need small goals, where there's definitely light at the end of the tunnel. For that reason, socks are perfect for my personality. I'm a teacher and I've started a knitting club at my school. Alas, only girls joined up. Can someone please start a
consciousness raising movement to convince boys that it's okay for them to knit too? Thanks, Ken, for being a guy who knits.
Happy Birthday, Ken! :)
Posted by: Kelly at March 3, 2006 1:22 PMWow, Pirkko does do wonderful work. Thanks for showing her to us. Don't worry about hte pink. THink of it as expanding your horizons. :-)

This song brought to you courtesy of the sheep at the farm I drive by every morning. I decided today to stop and take their picture, as they looked sooo adorable with little lambs gamboling about. For some reason, they all came up to the fence by the road and started going 'baaah'. Now I know why. They were singing!

That painting is astonishing, and I, too, truly despise pink. I've had to knit with pink (yeah, ewww...) thanks to seven-year-old. But this is somehow really cool and not retinally damaging at all.

Posted by: cathy at March 3, 2006 7:58 PMHappy birthday, Ken! 40, huh? Life begins at 40 and all that. No, wait, it really does. With an eye towards Shel in Philly's comment up there, we once were driving eight hours down the California coast, and passed a flock of newly-sheared sheep. All was silent, the kids were engrossed in their books--till suddenly the youngest, 8, whined, "We're not STOPPING, Mo-ommmmmmmm!"
Never stop. Keep up the good work. And thank you for taking care of Stephanie and Lene!

Posted by: Jayne at March 4, 2006 12:17 AMA very Happy Birthday to you Ken. I hope you have a lovely year ahead. 40 is a good time to make sure you are where you want to be. A good time to loosen up a bit and relax into yourself. All my 40's were great and there seems to be a new benefit I didn't know existed with each new age period. I keep wondering why my parents never told me how much fun it is at these different ages. I make sure I tell my kids everything so they know how much they have to look forward to. So have some happy 40's Ken. You have no idea how many lives you touch so this is the perfect time to let you know someone in NC thinks you are aces.

I found you via the Yarn Harlot. Is the Dulaan Project an ongoing project? I would love to contribute, I knit for a local shelter project but San Antonio, Texas doesn't get nearly as cold as Mongolia! And all those beautiful faces puts a "face" to the project.
I think you are interpreting the "pink" in the painting as shades of salmon! (A male interpretation of pink!) :)
Happy (belated) birthday, from one Pisces to another! I just love finding other March birthdays! Mine is Tues, my daughter's is the 12th & there are others in my family who have b-days in March, but I won't bore you with the details. Hope you enjoyed your day!
Posted by: Angelia at March 5, 2006 4:22 PMHappy 40th Birthday! Keep on knitting!
Posted by: Lorri at March 5, 2006 8:15 PMKen! We share a birthday. Happy big one to you. I turned 30 this year - dirty 30! My brain is incapable of thinking of a word to rhyme with 40... sporty forty? warty forty? shorty forty? ;)
Have a good one.
Posted by: Bookish Wendy at March 5, 2006 8:35 PMHey, Ken! Happy belated birthday. (Didn't check the Harlot's blog until today--darn old work gets in the way.) So many wonderful people are Pisces. The Durrow's gorgeous. Have a wonderful year ahead. Forty's not as bad as people would have you believe!
Posted by: Barb at March 5, 2006 9:20 PMhappy birthday Ken, thanks for allowing us to see mirror bum!
Posted by: devin at March 5, 2006 10:18 PMHappy Birthday. 40 is okay. 50 is better.
I looked at your butt. Not bad, especially for forty.
Happy Birthday Ken! We all wish we had you for a best friend! :)
Posted by: V at March 6, 2006 7:42 AMHappy Birthday to you, Ken.
Beautiful job on the sweater and the butt wasn't so bad after all.
Many happy returns.

Posted by: Amy Lu at March 6, 2006 4:48 PMOh yeah, you reminded me that I want to go to that art show. Thanks! What an awesome painting!
I really like the sleeve on that sweater. I'm tempted to steal that idea for the sweater I'm designing.
