Open Mind

I was asked today if "open mindedness" meant "lateral thinking". I replied:

Can be, indeed, and it's a good place to start. I don't like choosing only one method, and lateral thinking is only really useful as an adjunct to the logical process. So I'd probably start off logically and progress laterally as required, if that makes sense. I think that "open-mindedness" specifically would mean applying these logical and supra-logical processes even under circumstances where emotions are involved.

Any thoughts?
