Ken Day

Welcome to Ken Day 2004. This is my day of days with the girls, when they celebrate my role in their lives in the same way that they celebrate their dad on Fathers' Day and their mom on Mothers' Day. Me, I get my own day, and I don't even have to share it with other Kens in the world. I like this more than is strictly polite. Don't tell anyone.

This year for Ken Day we went to Ontario Place, because I've always wanted to roam around in a pedal boat. While I hadn't factored in that pedaling might actually be work, the experience was all that I thought it would be. Highly recommended. As an aside, it's worth noting that I have always called these things "paddle" boats, as has everyone else I know. It only occurred to me yesterday that they might be called "pedal" boats, because, well, of the pedals. Sure enough, I just confirmed on the Ontario Place website that they are indeed called pedal boats. Learn from my errors; that's why I make them...

We also went on the Wilderness Adventure Ride:

Ken Day

I'm not entirely certain who is sitting next to me in this photo. I know that Megan got on the ride next to me, and was on the ride next to me the whole time, but that is not Megan in the picture. Megan's face does not do that.

Stephanie is sitting in the middle. Yes, she is crying. We told her that she had to hold her arms up as we went down the chute or we'd keep riding the ride over and over again until she did. I know it looks like she's being tortured, but really, sometimes personal growth just hurts a bit.

Sam and Amanda are in the front. Thankfully, someone is having fun...

All in all, couldn't have asked for a better day. I am eternally grateful for the role the girls play in my life, and for me, Ken Day is all about them. Happy Ken Day!

Gipsy Dwarf

I was looking at the track listing on a Greatest Hits CD of the Gipsy Kings. The track listing has the track title immediately followed by the track length, and the time is noted as the number of minutes, apostrophe, number of seconds. Track 13 is called Soy, which means "I am", and it's 3 minutes 11 seconds. The track listing reads:

Soy 3'11

Which translated in my head as "I am 3 foot eleven". There was a moment of profound confusion as I tried to work out which of the Gipsy Kings was a dwarf, but it's all okay now.
